What a couple of years

I just realized that it has been 2 years already....I guess I should explain. in the late fall of 2010, I had an idea about how to improve datacenters & simplify them all at the same time. If converged the different parts of the datacenter into a single platform, you could really remake how things are done for companies & make life simpler and less expensive. I toyed with the idea for a few months, then talked to some folks at my company about it in the summer of 2011 - some of which had been thinking along similar lines but hadn't figured out the specifics of how to do it. By the late fall of 2011, I decided that I had a pretty good idea of how to make this thing called hyperconvergence work, so late one Sunday night in November, after the kids had woken me up & I couldn't get back to sleep, I decided to sneak into my lab and give it a go.....and it worked awesome. I pitched the principals at my company on it the next day, and since they had had a similar notion in the past, they loved it. Within a week, we were getting down to brass tacks on a productized version of my prototype and pivoting the company to focus on it.....amazing and heady stuff. In the time between then and now, the "little pet project" has grown far beyond me, and better minds than mine are taking it in awesome directions.  Now, 2 years almost to the day later, I look around at all the companies running our gear, look at what amounts to an entirely new category of computing, and marvel that my kids keeping me up one night can really change my industry....
